The buzz in the air about dating sites has turned my skepticism into complete avoidance, although I must say its difficult to completely avoid because everyone seems to be involved with dating sites in one way or another. I already have a long-standing partner, which I am happy with, so this may be one reason that I have shyed away from dating sites. I haven't much need for them at this point in my life. It's also hard to pin down what exactly it is that I have against them, but perhaps it has something to do with something that was once so personal and based in face to face interaction, something that takes time, is now reduced to surfing the web to search for a mate. It just seems to easy, superficial, desperate, and lacks what I feel is the necessary element of socializing. Emotions and intuition, in my opinion, are part of the magic of finding someone special. Or even less, they are part of finding someone that you just want to have sex with or an occasional fling even. I can't imagine caressing someone who I found on the web.

Perhaps I am being too close minded about dating sites. Perhaps I am just old and stuck in my ways. So be it. That's what happens as we age, and of course I never thought I'd be the one that would fall behind in the latest fashions, it seems that it is now happening. I'm prepared to accept that, as uncool as it is. I have gotten to the point in my life that being cool is no longer a concern. It takes too much energy, and the truly cool are those who don't try anyways. I'd like someone, by the way, to present me with some statistics or even some qualitative studies about how people who have found their partners through dating sites have fared with their relationships. It would be interesting at least, and could even be an eye opener for those of us who think the whole thing is just another ploy to make money, as opposed to a worthwhile service that the public is in need of. Then again, perhaps the social situation in some countries has gotten to the point that people don't know how to meet each other in public anymore. The technological age could have destroyed our human capacity to communicate. It could even be an issue of evolution.
